UEN Projects and Initiatives For FY2015

This initiatives list represents projects that will be addressed during fiscal year 2015 (Q1: July - Sept, Q2: Oct - Dec, Q3: Jan - March, Q4: April - June). This does not include ongoing operations or maintenance items.

1 Continue to design and implement the move of 500 Tellabs circuits (move from Optera to Tellabs) K.Quire The conversion of Geomax circuits from the Optera optical transport to the new Tellabs (now Coriant) optical transport was completed on December 31st, 2014. Circuit moves are 100% complete.

Followup activities will include shutting down and physically removing the old Optera hardware from all UEN PoPs and District Offices around the state. UEN’s Erate and Accounting teams are working with CenturyLink on setting up the new billing structure.

IVC Replacement - RUS and STEM - 90% of the equipment procurement is complete and classroom installation is well underway. All STEM IVC rooms in northern Utah are scheduled for completion by the start of school. RUS room installation will continue into the fall.

UEN’s new RUS collaborative video bridging solution is installed and provisioning is underway. Testing and training will be conducted during the summer with the intent of moving it into production this fall.

12 Complete Lake Powell School network upgrades. J.Egly We have included this circuit in the current RFP and believe that we will be able to upgrade the bandwidth to 100 mbps.
13 Support Four Corners Network Development Project.

As part of E-rate Modernization UEN was invited to participate in an FCC panel discussion in May to discuss how this program can be leveraged to benefit the Four Corners project.

UEN intends to leverage funding opportunities available through E-rate Modernization and bid fiber based services within the Utah portion of the Four Corners regions this year.

As part of its RUS project UEN will utilize a next generation collaborative video solution that can connect IVC classrooms and individual learners.

UEN also intends to pilot and utilize Cisco Collaborative Meeting Rooms (CMR) a cloud based solution that can bridge traditional IVC classrooms and individuals via WebEx.

15 Redesign and Bid All Alpine Elementary Schools.

Commissioned and completed a techical analysis of the FileMaker Database, received a report with recommendations, determined that this database is technically sound. Continued to refine data and processes around asset management. Weekly meetings to review goals and progress continue. Next step to accommodate TSSC’s asset management needs.
