2:00 am on UEN-TV 9.1WOMEN OF THE WATERSHED highlights the roles women have played in the conservation of the Florida Everglades, beginning with the suffragette movement of the early 20th century up to today. Hosted by Chloe Barnett - a Latina teenager, passionate conservationist and Florida resident - the film offers insightful interviews with present-day scientists, advocates and artists engaged in modern-day conservation activities. Chloe begins her journey in the Florida Keys, where a freshwater drought impacts the area's seagrass, mangroves and coral reefs. As she travels up through the expansive watershed in search of the headwaters in Orlando's suburbs, Chloe seeks to better understand the historic challenges of water management and pollution that now threaten this fragile ecosystem and the work being done by a new generation of advocates who are redefining the balance of women in conservation. Chloe grew up along the edge of this massive watershed, leading to her inspiration for this journey. As an advocate for the environment, Chloe was an active member of the Everglades Foundation's High School Leadership Committee. Additionally, she served as an intern with the Frost Science Museum through a program with the Smithsonian as an Ambassador representing the Museum of the American Latino in Washington, D.C. Her passion for the water eventually materialized through coral restoration initiatives in the Florida Keys as well as with the Rescue a Reef program at the University of Miami.
