Transforming Education with UEN’s eMedia Mathematics Hub

Learn how the eMedia Mathematics Hub is making it easier for teachers to find accessible, high-quality teaching materials tailored to Utah’s standards.

Lindsey Henderson would like to see a transformation in Utah’s math classrooms. Henderson, a math specialist at the Utah State Board of Education, believes that math teachers need a resource for effective teaching materials that’s easy to access and tailored to Utah’s teaching standards. “It's really important that teachers have resources to teach through those high-quality and evidence-based teaching practices,” she said.

To help achieve this transformation, the Utah Education Network has gathered digital resources for math teachers. “The eMedia hub centralizes the location specific to Utah’s population and Utah standards for math instruction,” said Henderson. “It allows teachers to go to one place, pick a standard, and have a bunch of rich mathematical tasks from which to choose, alleviating their planning process.”

The Mathematics hub — found at emedia.uen.org — offers thousands of educational resources aligned with Utah’s standards for all grade levels. It is one of several hubs designed to support evidence-based teaching practices for specific subjects, streamlining teachers’ planning and supporting effective teaching methods.

Katie Blunt, IT product manager at UEN, said the eMedia hub has a growing user base and a positive effect on teaching practices. “eMedia should be the first stop for all Utah educators looking for classroom resources.”

Jennifer Burt, a math teacher at Syracuse Junior High, agrees. “The thing that I love about eMedia is that if I’m looking for a specific standard or specific activity, I can find it through there, and I can make sure that they’re standard-aligned.” For Burt, eMedia provides a reliable and efficient way to access the exact resources she needs, enabling her to focus more on teaching and less on searching for materials.
