Lesson Plans

Strand 4

Students will develop cooperative skills and positive personal behavior through communication and respect for self and others.
Students exhibit personal responsibility in a group setting by working well with others, accepting feedback, and understanding how rules and etiquette contribute to a safe and enjoyable environment.

Standard 2.4.3

Demonstrate safe and respectful behavior towards classmates and equipment during physical activity.

• Coyote and Frog Race
  According to Goshute tradition, Coyote tales should only be told during the winter time. Please use this lesson and story in the winter months. This lesson utilizes the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute (CTGR) tale, ?Coyote and Frog Race? to decode common words with suffixes. The students will also be introduced to why eagle feathers are significant in Native cultures and its similarity to present day ways of honoring those who accomplish great things. Students will also participate in cooperative activities to build teamwork in the classroom.Native peoples tell stories about Coyote and other animals to their children. Based on Coyote?s mistakes, the elders teach children about proper behavior and positive attitudes. The lessons taught help children to avoid making the same mistakes as Coyote and suffering the consequences in their own lives. 
• Elementary PE Individual Jump Rope Skills
  This lesson is to teach 3-5th grade students five basic individual jump rope skills.  Students will be taught how to find the correct jump rope size for them, and the five basic skills of forward jumping, backward jumping, jog step jumping, one foot jumping, and skier jumping.  They will also be shown  other jumps they can try for fun.  They will work alone, and then with a partner who will video them doing the five different skills.  They then have a rubric to fill out and self-assess their jumping.  They will be taught about basic digital citizenship skills of getting permission before filming others and not posting videos online without their parents permission.
• Parkour Unit Plan
  In this unit lesson plan, teachers will be guided through three different trimesters, each with four different units for students to study. These units include: parkour, soccer, hockey, and more.
• Tennis
   In this lesson plan, educators will learn to teach students how to play tennis.
