Writing (3.W)

Students will learn to write for a variety of tasks, purposes, and audiences using appropriate grammar/conventions, syntax, and style.

Standard 3.W.1:

Write argumentative pieces on topics and/or texts, supporting a point of view with evidence, using linking words and phrases to connect the claim to the evidence, and provide a concluding statement.

• Class Pet Persuasive Essay
  This Class Pet Persuasive Essay is a fun engaging activity because students will be making a Spark Adobe Video as the cumutative assessment. The lesson plan goes through each step following the writing process of brainstorming, writing a rough draft, editing, revising and then a publish video. Graphic organizers are provided along with resources such as youtube, Utah Online Library, Wonderopolis, and google search articles, for students to use for information.
• Dog Vs. Cat Lesson-Supporting Opinions with Picture Evidence
  This lesson plan is to help learners form an opinion and find evidence to support their opinion with picture evidence. Because it requires little writing, it is a great lesson to start an opinion writing unit. 
• Winter
  This lesson is designed for beginning writers to develop an understanding of opinion/persuasive writing. Students will examine a piece of work written by an author using opinion writing. Students will be guided through how to use a graphic organizer to help organize their writing and to assure all the proper elements have been included in their opinion writing.
