Writing (P4.W)
Students will learn to write for a variety of tasks, purposes, and audiences using appropriate grammar/conventions, syntax, and style.
Standard P4.W.1:
Standard P4.W.1: Verbally share an opinion and visually represent that opinion using simple drawing and writing (e.g., scribble writing with letter-like formations).

Fine Motor Control
Children will learn to use writing materials. Multiple opportunities to develop drawing and writing skills is important at this age. As children are ready, encourage them to create simple strokes after a model. Their abilities will increase as they are ready.

Grow a Grass Seed
Plant grass seed in cups with your child(ren). Once the seeds are planted, place them near the window and watch them grow. Provide the items needed for growth and talk about what is needed. Each day, allow children to observe and communicate any changes they see and write about it in a picture journal.

Imaginary Play - Grocery Store
Children will communicate what they intend to do during imaginary play. They can use props and toys as they act out certain situations. Brainstorm with the child(ren) about different things they may add to the play area for that specific theme. Once they are done playing, they can draw a picture and write to tell what they enjoyed the most.

Imaginary Play - Post Office
Children will communicate what they intend to do during imaginary play. They can use props and toys as they act out certain situations from the story, or made-up scenarios similar to what they read/heard about.

Imaginary Play - Restaurant
Child(ren) will brainstorm with an adult about different things they may add to the play area for a specific theme. Children will communicate what they intend to do during imaginary play.

Living Things and Light
Grow flowers from seeds. Most plants will need soil, light, and water to grow. Plant 2 cups for your child(ren). Both plants will receive the same soil and water. One plant will be placed by sunlight, the other will be placed in a closed cabinet. Document the differences in growth over an extended period of time.

Read - Kahlil and Mr. Hagerty
Child(ren) will read the book Khalil and Mr. Hagerty with an adult for the first time. Story will be re-read several times during the week.This story is about a house that has been separated into an upstairs and downstairs apartment. A young boy named Khalil and and older gentleman, Mr. Hagerty, form a friendship throughout the story. Together they share ideas, time, and thoughts.

Safety Procedures
Talk with children about things that can keep them safe in various environments. This can include safety tips for home, school, sports, outside play. You can read Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann for ideas.
