Lesson Plans
Reading (P4.R)
Students will learn to proficiently read and comprehend grade level literature and informational text, including seminal U.S. documents of historical and literary significance, at the high end of the grade level text complexity band, with scaffolding as needed.
*Standard R.4 includes an asterisk to refer educators back to the Text Complexity Grade Bands and Associated Lexile Ranges in the introduction of the standards.
Standard P4.R.2:
Demonstrate mastery of age-appropriate phonological awareness skills.

Blend and Segment
Children will learn simple hand gestures to break words into syllables, show the beginning sound and the rest of the word as they blend and segment each word. They will practice with 5 new words per activity.

Concepts of Print
Children will learn how to correctly hold a book, notice the spacing between words, tie illustrations to text, and track the words with a finger. Children will demonstrate that reading is done left to right, top to bottom, and front to back.

Nursery Rhyme - Alphabet Song
Children will listen and sing along to the alphabet song as the letters are being pointed to on a paper, chart, or on the wall. Allow children to help point to the letters as they are ready.

Nursery Rhyme - Five Green and Speckled Frogs
Children will listen to a song with movements as the adult points out the words in the rhyme. Once your child(ren) knows the song and the motions they will point out the words and control their movements.

Nursery Rhyme - Five Little Ducks
Children will listen to Five Little Ducks as the adult points out the words in the rhyme. Allow children to help point out the words as they are ready.. Once your child(ren) knows the song and the motions, they will sing the song and control their movements by keeping their arms and hands in a space close to their bodies and not in anyone else?s space.

Nursery Rhyme - Head Shoulders Knees and Toes
Children will listen to Head Shoulders Knees and Toes as the adult points out the words in the rhyme. Allow children to help point out the words as they are ready. Once your child(ren) knows the song and the motions, they will sing the song and control their movements by keeping their body movements in a designated space.

Children will listen to Old McDonald as the adult points out the words in the rhyme. Allow children to help point out the words as they are ready. Once your child(ren) knows the song and the motions, they will sing the song and control their movements to a designated space as they act out the animals.

Children will listen to and recite a rhyme as the adult points out the words. Allow children to help point out the words as they are ready.

Nursery Rhyme - Row Row Row Your Boat
Children will listen to Row, Row, Row Your Boat as the adult points out the words in the rhyme. Allow children to help point out the words as they are ready. Child(ren) will sing the song and control their movements within a designated area.

Children will listen to Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear as the adult points out the words in the rhyme. Allow children to help point out the words as they are ready.. Once your child(ren) knows the song and the motions, they will sing the song and control their movements.

Children will learn phonological awareness as they play with words and sounds.

Read - Kahlil and Mr. Hagerty
Child(ren) will read the book Khalil and Mr. Hagerty with an adult for the first time. Story will be re-read several times during the week.This story is about a house that has been separated into an upstairs and downstairs apartment. A young boy named Khalil and and older gentleman, Mr. Hagerty, form a friendship throughout the story. Together they share ideas, time, and thoughts.

Silly Sally - Actions
Students will move to act out the sections in the story as they are given 2 step directions (Safely place your hands on the ground so your head is upside down and walk backwards, dance a jig like the pig and sing a tune like the loon).

Songs for Weather
Children will sing simple songs about the weather.
