Course Introduction
The purpose of this course is to research and solve real world health science needs. This course is designed for advanced health science students to further their health science knowledge and skills. The Health Science Capstone encourages students to think analytically, logically, and creatively to integrate experience and knowledge in real world situations. Membership and participation in HOSA is encouraged.
Core Standards of the Course
Strand 1
Students will develop a better understanding of real-world application within the Health Science field.
Standard 1
Students will gain greater insight into opportunities for employment and/or education within the Health Sciences.
Performance Skills
Complete one or more of the following:

Tour a medical or educational facility.
-
Participate in a health science related job-shadow.
-
Participate in guest speaker(s) presentations for students to learn about health science opportunities.
Strand 2
Students will gain a greater understanding of how research and analytics impacts Health Science.
Standard 1
Students will use research skills to analyze a health science topic.
Performance Skills
Complete one of the following:

Develop a research project addressing a health science topic using the scientific process and present your findings.

Research career opportunities in Health Science and present your findings.
Strand 3
Students will implement leadership skills throughout the course.
Standard 1
Students will demonstrate group leadership skills in the classroom.
Performance Skills
Demonstrate leadership in one or more of the following areas:

Lead a team

Create assignments for team members

Follow directions from team leaders
-
Practice ethical leadership
-
Demonstrate effective communication (speaking and/or listening)
Strand 4
Students will use various forms of technology throughout the course.
Standard 1
Students will recognize current technological tools and their impact on health care.
Performance Skills
Students will use one or more of the following technological tools throughout the course. Examples may include:

Online surveys

Podcasts

Advanced presentation tools – Adobe Spark, Microsoft Sway, Prezi, PPT, etc.
