Strand 3: PEOPLE, PLACES, AND ENVIRONMENTS

Early learning programs should include experiences that provide for the study of people, places, and environments. Students will learn how to care for and protect their home and school environments, the earth, and to safely interact within their school and community.

Standard SS 3 yr.3.2

With prompting and support, identify and follow safety procedures for school and various environments (for example, safety drills, crosswalks, seatbelts, helmets).
  • Safety Procedures
Talk with children about things that can keep them safe in various environments. This can include safety tips for home, school, sports, outside play. You can read Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann for ideas.
  • Self-Selected Tasks to Build Self Awareness
Create a play activity outside for your child(ren) with a variety of options.  Gather the materials such as bubbles, kites, chalk, jump ropes, hula hoops, a ball to kick or bounce, etc.  Ask them to plan where they would like to play.  Talk about the amount of space they may need to play safely without interrupting others.
