Strand 1: CULTURE AND DIVERSITY

Early learning programs should include experiences that provide for the study of culture and cultural diversity. Students will have the opportunity to share their family's attributes with peers and discuss similarities and differences.

Standard SS 3 yr.1.1

With prompting and support, recognize differences and commonalities in culture, ethnicity, and abilities within the classroom and immediate communities (for example, language, family structure, traditions, disabilities).
  • Culture - Things that Make You Unique
Help children recognize traditions they have in their own families and provide them with an opportunity to share part of that culture with others. Have child(ren) share a drawing, a photo, music they enjoy, food, etc.
  • Nursery Rhyme - Alphabet Song
Children will listen and sing along to the alphabet song as the letters are being pointed to on a paper, chart, or on the wall. Allow children to help point to the letters as they are ready.
  • Read - Fry Bread
Child(ren) will read the book Fry Bread with an adult for the first time. Story will be re-read several times during the week.
