Strand 4: NUTRITION

Students will understand why food choices are important for health.

Standard HE 3 yr.4.2

Begin to identify why eating healthy food is important.
  • Healthy Eating - Food Groups
    Children will talk about eating food to fuel the body.  Examples of healthy and not so healthy food items will be discussed.  Once you have completed the discussion with your child(ren), allow them to sort foods by healthy or not so healthy.  As children are ready, ask them to categorize foods into different food groups. 
  • Healthy Eating - Food for Fuel
    Children will talk about eating food to fuel the body.  Examples of healthy and not so healthy food items will be discussed.  Once you have completed the discussion with your child(ren), allow them to sort foods by healthy or not so healthy.
  • Healthy Eating - Traditions
    Many foods tie into traditions within the months of November and December. Children will talk about eating food to fuel the body.  Examples of healthy and not so healthy food items will be discussed.  Once you have completed the discussion with your child(ren), allow them to sort foods by healthy or not so healthy.
