Osa Atoe is a ceramic artist. When making pottery, she connects with her Nigerian ancestors and the indigenous people of Florida. Outpost office is a design practice based in Columbus, Ohio. Through inventive design and experimental production, they are redefining the meaning of architecture. Collaborative and sustainable, Tyde Music is a company that makes instruments out of reclaimed materials. Founded in 2010 by a pair of self-taught luthiers, we visit North Lake Tahoe in California to find out more.

Oleg Kruglyakov is a Balalaika virtuoso. Growing up in Siberia, he works to preserve Russian folk music traditions alongside his music partner Terry Boyarsky. Every third Thursday of the month, the Morada Way Arts and Cultural District in Islamorada, Florida, has their monthly art walk. featuring a wide array of artists, this landmark event brings the community together. We take a trip underwater for an immersive experience in wisconsin. Called “Deep Lake Future,” this surreal art adventure imagines a future where freshwater invasive species have overrun the great lakes. In recognition of the fiftieth anniversary of hip-hop, the rock and roll hall of fame created an exhibition that highlights the movement’s musical and cultural impact across the globe.

In Lorain County, Ohio, a new theater company is making a splash. Called “Outside Circle Theater Project,” the company is providing a stage for underrepresented voices to share their story.The Sierra Highlanders Pipe Band in Reno, Nevada, has been bringing the music of scotland to eager audiences for over fifty years. We see the talent and dedication that goes into making a band like this one successful. Eric Rausch and Jen Kiko are a husband and wife creative duo who work together on meaningful public art projects.

Second Chances

Singer Deonna Marie has had to overcome many struggles to be where she is today. We head to Oklahoma to get an inside look at her show “The Deonna Marie Experience,” which takes viewers on an inspiring journey through her life. We head to the Red Stewart airfield in Waynesville, Ohio, to learn about aerobatic flying. Pilots become artists as they create captivating shapes in the sky. We take a trip to Norfolk, Virginia, to experience an immersive staging of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” Hearing from the show’s leads, we find out more about the production.

Second Life

We visit the first Art Basel event hosted by Opa-locka, Florida. Featuring contemporary art from Africa and the African Diaspora, the event gave artists a space to share their stories. As part of their permanent collection, the American Folk Art Museum in New York city holds an assortment of marble objects. For the exhibit “Material Witness,” several were highlighted. Canton, Ohio’s “Bluecoats” is a world class drum and bugle corps. Each season, over a hundred young adults are selected for an educational training program and an unforgettable cross-country tour. Artist Kyle Karrasch gives trash a second life by transforming it into art. In doing so, he provides commentary on consumption and environmental conservation.

Inside the Mind

Across the state of Ohio one will find the fascinating remains of medieval texts. Desiring to explore this complex history, The Ohio State University’s rare books and manuscripts library exhibited over one hundred manuscript items. We travel to the American Folk Art Museum in New York City to learn about Lonnie Holley, a contemporary artist based in Atlanta. As part of the exhibit “Material Witness,” some of Holley’s work was on display and his creative collaboration with materials examined. We take a trip to Sarasota, Florida, to get a behind-the-scenes look at “Clowns Like Me,” a one-man show that examines what it’s like living with mental illness.

Decades

For decades, “The Simpsons” has been delighting viewers around the world. In celebration of the animated series, the Trout Museum of Art in Appleton, Wisconsin, exhibited memorable artwork from the show. Combining Reggae, Hip-Hop, and R&B, artist Greg Gutty has created a sound that is very much his own. With his music, he hopes to uplift and inspire. We head to Dayton, Ohio, to learn about the city’s strong connection to aviation history. As a way to honor this heritage, a series of striking murals were commissioned for the public to appreciate.
